Oklahoma Avenue Lutheran Church

Overview

We preach Christ crucified for the forgiveness of sin and received in Word and Sacrament. At the center of our worship and life is the person and work of Jesus, the Word become flesh, as revealed to us in the Holy Scriptures. It is there that we learn of and trust in His perfect life in our place, His atoning death for our sin, and His resurrection for our life and hope, our peace and joy. In the church's liturgy, the Bible speaks to us in a Christ-centered manner - and we speak God's words back to Him and to one another. The hymns also speak to our hearts the saving work of God for us in Jesus, His Son. Oklahoma Ave. is a member congregation of the Lutheran Church-Missouri Synod, which confesses that the Book of Concord (1580) is a true doctrinal explanation of what God's Word says. Our church uses the historic one-year lectionary and utilizes the historic liturgy in its Divine Services drawn from Lutheran Service Book (CPH 2006). BECAUSE WE BELIEVE THAT THE DIVINE SERVICE IS FIRST AND FOREMOST AN OPPORTUNITY TO RECEIVE OUR LORD'S GIFTS FROM HIM, we celebrate the Lord's Supper each Sunday/Tuesday, for those eligible to rightly receive it. We hope you also appreciate the importance of both declaring and sharing the truth of God's Word and the gospel of Christ as we strive to do faithfully, by the power of the Holy Spirit at work in us through His Holy Word and Sacraments.
