About the Angelus

The Angelus is a traditional Christian devotion commemorating the Incarnation of Jesus Christ. It is traditionally recited three times daily: at 6:00 AM, noon, and 6:00 PM.

The name Angelus comes from the first words of the Latin text: Angelus Domini nuntiavit Mariae (The Angel of the Lord declared unto Mary).

This devotion has been practiced by Christians for centuries and reminds us of God's great love in sending His Son to become incarnate for our salvation.

In this Lutheran adaptation, the repeated Hail Mary is the biblical greeting from Luke 1, and the collect addresses the Lord directly through Jesus Christ.
